Face it, Feel it, free it
From a very early age, we were taught to not feel our emotions. If we were fortunate to have good enough parents, we may have heard versions of “Don’t cry. It’s okay.” “There is nothing to be scared about.” “Don’t get angry or I will send you to your room.” Sometimes, we are not that fortunate and we were hurt for feeling emotions. We learned to stuff them down, avoid them, push them away, distract ourselves, or numb them.
The journey toward healing starts with believing YOU can heal. Katie helps her students make that leap of faith. She offers a two-hour class that invites her students to get curious about their own nervous system, face the emotions they have been conditioned to push away, safely feel those emotions in their purest form, and free those emotions, so they have more space to make different choices.
Katie guides her students through a gentle one-hour Hatha yoga class with the focus to stimulate the Vagus nerve (the nerve that balances the nervous system) and upregulate the parasympathetic (the rest and digest function of the nervous system) to ease the body into a balanced state. Throughout the class, Katie will offer psychoeducation on the nervous system, so her students gain a sense of wonder about their own emotional bodies.
Yoga is the perfect way to learn how to work with our nervous systems. Yoga asks us to find our edge, hold, feel, and breathe. This is precisely how we heal from past trauma. We find our emotional edge, hold, feel, and breathe. We are not our emotions. We are not our thoughts. We are the witnesses to our emotions and our thoughts. Yoga helps us ease into our witness consciousness, so we can notice our emotional responses. When we become aware of those emotional responses that hold us back from being our truest authentic selves, we can allow those emotions to move through us and be released from our bodies.
Once her students are in a balanced emotional state, Katie then invites them to get curious about their own emotional responses, conditioned patterns and protective systems. Katie will guide her students to feel those emotional parts in a safe and gentle way. Once her students have felt through those emotional states, those emotions can be set free. This is truly how we should have been taught to feel emotions. This is the beginning to experiencing true emotional freedom, so her students can be their own unique, authentic self.
Katie encourages her students to bring a yoga mat, a blanket, a journal and a pen.
